Do you face the same problem like me that you just can’t feel the Christmas spirit with this sunny, warm, non-snowy weather? Here are some tips to get into the Christmas spirit, even without snow:
Every year the GISSV (German International School of Silicon Valley) in Mountain View organizes a German Holiday Market. Usually it is on the first Saturday in December. They organize a lot of fun things to do for kids like a ballon artist, Make-your-own-christmas-tree-ball, theater for kids and more. They sell punch, rolls with Leberkäse, sausages and other delicious foods. Please visit the website of the GISSV for more information.
Another Holiday market is the Christmas in the Park in San Jose. Located on South Market street. Go there for some hot chocolate and take a ride with the carousel.
A lot of houses in the neighborhoods have a special christmas decoration. So it is worth going for a walk in the evening to see the wonderful lighted houses. If you can’t find any houses with christmas decorations at all, here are some streets/houses where you have to go:
- Christmas Tree Lane, Palo Alto, in Fulton Street between Embarcadero and Seale Ave.
- Severns-Pease Christmas Display, Sunnyvale, 1164 Tangerin Way, 88,000 computer controlled lights on 275 different channels, synchronized to music. I have never seen such a great decoration in my entire life. This is just awesome.
- Fantasy of lights, Vasona Park in Los Gatos.
Do you know more wonderful streets with Christmas Decoration? Please leave a comment and tell us where they are.
Oak Meadow Park / Vasona Park in Los Gatos, The Fantasy of Lights Holiday Train runs Thursday – Sunday starting December 2 through December 26 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Cost is $5 for the train (riders under 2 free) and includes a ride on the carousel. Train does not run on December 24 & 25. Park at University Avenue south of Blossom Hill Road to avoid the traffic for the line for “fantasy of lights”.
We did this ride and it is really great. Not just for kids who like trains, this ride is also very romantic. For more romantic feelings, avoid early hours between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM (too many excited kids). Come later when most kids already left and don’t miss a ride on the wonderful old carousel.
Christmas Tree Cutting
Cut your own christmas tree at Santa’s Tree Farm. Located in 78 Pilarcitos Creek Road, Half Moon Bay. You get a saw at the entrance. Find your perfect tree for Christmas. They have all kinds of trees and I’m sure you will find one you like best. If you come with kids, take a ride with the little train.
Have a merry Christmas!
